Description

AIA Approved CE Webinar On Demand: Through-Bolts and Blind Bolts to HSS (June 2023)
Explore bolting techniques for connecting to HSS members in this free webinar!   Gain insights into HSS limit states, deep dive into through-bolting and one-sided bolt options through design examples, and learn about proprietary bolts for efficient and accessible connections. Earn 1.0 PDH or 1.0 LU upon completion.

There are methods for bolting to HSS members that may increase the efficiency of the connection relative to welds. The main challenge for using bolts with HSS members is access to the interior of the member – conventional bolts require access to both sides of the bolt during installation. This free session will explore through-bolting and one-sided bolt options to HSS, which require checking less commonly known limit states in the supporting HSS member.

Learning Objectives
Join this session to:

  • Learn HSS limit states to check for bolted connections
  • Take a deep dive into through bolting for HSS and its considerations
  • Discuss proprietary one-sided bolts and other innovative bolting techniques
  • Step through examples utilizing through-bolts and blind bolts in HSS connections

SpeakerBeth Suminski 450w Webinar On Demand: Through-Bolts and Blind Bolts to HSS (June 2023)
Beth has worked for 25 years as a structural engineer in the fields of consulting engineering, software, and continuing education. During her first few years, her experiences in construction defect litigation cemented her understanding of how and how NOT to design a structure. She spent the following years as a practicing consulting engineer in San Diego, and later as a director of structural software sales and development with Bentley. In her current position with FORSE, she continues to pursue both the design and educational aspects of structural engineering. One topic Beth highlights is structural steel HSS design, as a technical consultant to the Steel Tube Institute. Beth is a licensed PE and SE in California and a licensed PE in Arkansas.
