STI Member Profile: Diverse Capabilities Set Bull Moose Tube Apart
Bull Moose Tube is headquartered in Chesterfield, MO, and with seven manufacturing locations spanning from Burlington, Ontario, to the outskirts of Phoenix, AZ, (with an eighth and largest currently under construction in Sinton, TX), it may have the biggest footprint of any member producer. It offers a diverse array of products including HSS, mechanical tubing and sprinkler pipe.
The company currently specializes in direct form HSS and can produce products up to a 12-inch square, and rectangular equivalents, up to a 5/8-inch wall. The direct form process is unique in the industry and allows the company to start with the highest-grade steel, consistently put welds on the short side, form sharper corners, and produce HSS in a full range of metric sizes, which allows it to work with a variety of global customers. The company also manufactures to a wide range of HSS engineering standards, including ASTM A500, A1085, A847, A1112, CSA G40.20/21 and EN 10219, with yields ranging from 46-110 KSI. The new mill being constructed in Sinton will significantly expand its total HSS capacity and product offerings, including jumbo sizes in squares, rectangles and rounds, and allow it to enter the ASTM A252 pipe piling market.
Nate Carruthers, director of marketing, says the company’s diverse locations and capabilities are points of strength. “For both HSS and mechanical tubing, we have overlapping size and specification capabilities, which allow greater flexibility for us and better responsiveness and availability for our customers,” said Carruthers.
Andy Annakin, chief commercial officer, says the company joined STI both to stay better informed on the state of industry and help shape its future. “We want to be part of an organization that’s helping set the direction of the market and the HSS industry. We also have the experience to help facilitate debates and idea generation that I think can help the industry,” he said.
