Mastering HSS Connections Series 2026
Title: Leveraging Steel Castings in HSS Structures: Innovating for Design and ConstructabilityAIA Approved CE October 7 Webinar | Leveraging Steel Castings in HSS Structures: Innovating for Design and Constructability
Date: Wednesday, October 7, 2026
Time: 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. CT
Format: Live Webinar
Level: Intermediate, Technical, Engineer, Fabricator

This presentation explores the transformative role of steel castings in Hollow Structural Section (HSS) structures, focusing on the geometric freedom of casting design to improve structural performance, enhance architectural freedom, and innovate constructability methods. Attendees will learn how precision-engineered cast steel components can integrate with HSS structures to simplify complex connections, improve fabrication, and explore new possibilities in architectural and structural solutions.

By exploring real-world case studies, this course introduces creative approaches using steel castings that pioneer HSS constructability unmatched by conventional methods. Project examples will also consider the tolerance and performance benefits of using castings in complex connection geometries and demanding structural designs. This presentation provides valuable strategies for engineers, architects, fabricators and contractors to innovate HSS structures with steel castings to achieve efficiency, performance and innovation.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the structural and architectural advantages of steel castings in HSS systems.
  • Identify key applications where steel castings simplify fabrication, improve constructability, and enhance performance in HSS structures.
  • Review case studies which demonstrate successful implementation in real-world HSS projects.
  • Recognize opportunities for steel casting use in critical structures and connections.

Professional Development Hours
Each participant can earn 1.0 PDH or 1.0 LU/HSW and receive a certificate of completion from the Steel Tube Institute (STI). To receive a certificate from STI, you must login to the webinar via your unique registration link, attend the webinar in its entirety, and complete both poll questions.

Any participant that holds a PE license in Florida, Maryland, New York and/or North Carolina is required to complete a quiz for your PDH. Architects must complete the quiz for their LU/HSW and send their AIA number to sfontaine@steeltubeinstitute.org to have attendance reported to AIA. The quiz widget is available along the bottom row of the ON24 dashboard.

Registration Types & Fees

  • HSS Professional Member
    • Individual: Registration is free with your individual membership.
    • Group: Registration is free with your group membership.
