Mastering HSS Connections Series 2026
Title: How to Design HSS with FEA/CBFEM Outside the Limits of ApplicabilityAIA Approved CE November 4 Webinar | How to Design HSS with FEA/CBFEM Outside the Limits of Applicability
Date: Wednesday, November 4, 2026
Time: 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. CT
Format: Live Webinar
Level: Intermediate, Technical, Engineer, Fabricator

HSS connections that fall outside the AISC limits of applicability require careful consideration of analysis methods and design requirements. This webinar will discuss when finite element analysis (FEA) is an appropriate tool for evaluating these connections, how to interpret stress and strain results, and how to verify compliance with AISC requirements. Participants will work through an HSS connection design example outside the AISC limits of applicability.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify when finite element analysis is appropriate for evaluating HSS connections outside the AISC limits of applicability.
  • Interpret stress and strain results from finite element analysis.
  • Describe how to verify HSS connection designs for compliance with AISC requirements.
  • Review the analysis and design of an HSS connection outside the AISC limits of applicability.

Speakers:
Andrea Castelo – IDEA StatiCa

Andrea CasteloAndrea Castelo is a Senior Product Engineer at IDEA StatiCa US, where she specializes in steel connection design and structural workflows. With a strong background in civil and structural engineering, Andrea plays a key role in educating engineers on advanced design methodologies using IDEA StatiCa, particularly in areas like connection design, anchor reinforcement, and steel-to-concrete connections.

Yann Gueguen – IDEA StatiCa
Yann GueguenYann Gueguen is a Senior Regional Engineer at IDEA StatiCa US, working at the intersection of technical sales and structural engineering software across the AMER market. With a Master’s degree in structural engineering and roughly six years of experience as a structural project engineer, Yann brings hands-on design expertise to helping engineers adopt advanced analysis and connection design workflows. He works closely with prospects, customers, and enterprise accounts to guide firms through the practical application of IDEA StatiCa’s tools, and has been with the company since 2021 as one of its longest-tenured US team members.

Professional Development Hours
Each participant can earn 1.0 PDH or 1.0 LU/HSW and receive a certificate of completion from the Steel Tube Institute (STI). To receive a certificate from STI, you must login to the webinar via your unique registration link, attend the webinar in its entirety, and complete both poll questions.

Any participant that holds a PE license in Florida, Maryland, New York and/or North Carolina is required to complete a quiz for your PDH. Architects must complete the quiz for their LU/HSW and send their AIA number to sfontaine@steeltubeinstitute.org to have attendance reported to AIA. The quiz widget is available along the bottom row of the ON24 dashboard.

Registration Types & Fees

  • HSS Professional Member
    • Individual: Registration is free with your individual membership.
    • Group: Registration is free with your group membership.
