With superior utility and versatility, the advantages of building with steel Hollow Structural Sections (HSS) are limitless. But, to paraphrase a popular saying, with great opportunity comes great responsibility. How can fabrication and design professionals ensure that all the requirements for bringing an HSS project to life will be met? Let STI be your resource throughout the stages of HSS – from sourcing tubes, to navigating limit states, to designing efficient and buildable connections. This complimentary webinar will present practical tips, including:
- Analyze HSS design requirements in AISC 360
- Verifying tube wall thickness adequacy using STI’s HSS Connex software
- Determining column capacities using new HSS and WF comparison tables
- Creating efficient connections based on limit state requirements
Speaker
Beth has worked for 25 years as a structural engineer in the fields of consulting engineering, software, and continuing education. During her first few years, her experiences in construction defect litigation cemented her understanding of how and how NOT to design a structure. She spent the following years as a practicing consulting engineer in San Diego, and later as a director of structural software sales and development with Bentley. In her current position with FORSE, she continues to pursue both the design and educational aspects of structural engineering. One topic Beth highlights is structural steel HSS design, as a technical consultant to the Steel Tube Institute. Beth is a licensed PE and SE in California and a licensed PE in Arkansas.
