NECA 2014 Recap

The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) expected record attendance at its 2014 convention and trade show, and despite the unexpected airline difficulties in Chicago, the crowds did not disappoint. Thousands of electrical contractors and other industry professionals convened at Chicago’s McCormick Place for three days of innovation and education. Here are some of the highlights from our perspective:

Electrical Product Innovations – The show floor was buzzing all day with thousands of new products, service solutions and live demos. Two of Steel Tube Institute’s member companies, Allied Tube & Conduit and Wheatland Tube, had products on display. And finally, the prestigious NECA Showstopper Showcase and Awards displayed a sampling of the greatest electrical product innovations throughout the show. Technical Workshop on Corrosion
Steel Tube Institute’s Conduit Committee member Marty Brett led a technical workshop titled “Steel Conduit and EMT — Understanding Corrosion and Raceway Restoration.” The session included an overview of the UL^® and NEC^® requirements for corrosion protection, as well as the evaluation process used to determine usability of storm- and water-damaged steel conduit and electrical metallic tubing. Marty also provided information on the processes and cleaning agents needed for restoring usable conduit and EMT to service.

Launch of Newly Updated Steel Conduit Website
The Conduit Committee revealed its updated website at NECA 2014! The site now features this blog — Conduit Connection — and a live Twitter feed, as well as refreshed product information, case studies and technical / industry articles — all developed to build awareness for the many advantages of steel conduit.
