HSS members are an excellent choice in braced frames. After discussing best practices for choosing the optimal HSS brace section, a library of details will be covered for HSS bracing connections. We will also navigate recent code updates and fabrication insights into these essential connections.

Learning Objectives

  • Design Essentials: Learn design considerations for common HSS brace connection details, including slotted, end tee, and seismically reinforced connections.
  • Combined Loading: Step through limit state checks for gusset plate-to-HSS column connections, with a focus on guidance for combined shear, axial, and moment loading.
  • Real-World Examples: Dive into practical application with design examples, including a slotted HSS brace connection and a gusset plate-to-HSS column connection example under combined loading.

Professional Development Hours
Each participant can earn 1.0 PDH or 1.0 AIA LU|HSW and receive a certificate of completion from the Steel Tube Institute (STI). To receive a certificate from STI, either for an individual or anybody in the group/site, you are required to attend the webinar in its entirety and complete all poll questions. The certificate will be available for download as soon as all requirements are met.

Any participant that holds a PE license in Florida, Maryland, New York and/or North Carolina is required to complete a quiz for your PDH. Architects should submit their AIA #, if any, and take the quiz to receive the LU|HSW. The quiz will be available to the registrant at the conclusion of the webinar and should be completed immediately. If you are a group/site registration, individual participants licensed in any of these four states must take the quiz.

Registration Fees

  • Registration is $95 for individual registration. This provides a unique link for one login. Registrant is eligible for one PDH certificate provided you successfully complete the webinar (answer poll questions, attend webinar in its entirety, and take the quiz if licensed in Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, and/or New York).
  • Group/site registration is only available for HSS Group Professional Members. An HSS Group Professional Membership can be purchased for $400. This allows multiple people to view the webinar in one room or multiple people from the same office to view individually.
