Using wide flange beams and HSS columns can lead to a very effective framing system. In this presentation, we will focus on mastering moment connections between them. From the very common directly-welded or flange-plated connections to the more adventurous collared or end-plated connections, there are many ways to transfer moment. This presentation ensures that connection designers understands all limit states involved and are aware of the available tools to check them.

• Verify which limit states apply to moment connections at HSS columns
• Calculate effective weld length by hand or with STI’s Effective Weld Calculator
• Investigate traditional component design methods and compare to FEA methods
• Explore relative costs and details of a variety of moment connections

Professional Development Hours
Each participant can earn 1.0 PDH and receive a certificate of completion from the Steel Tube Institute (STI). To receive a certificate from STI, you must login to the webinar via your unique registration link, attend the webinar in its entirety, and complete both poll questions.

Any participant that holds a PE license in Florida, Maryland, New York and/or North Carolina is required to complete a quiz for your PDH. Architects must complete the quiz for their LU/HSW and send their AIA number to [email protected] to have attendance reported to AIA. The quiz widget is available along the bottom row of the ON24 dashboard.
