Title: How HSS Fit in a Seismic Force Resisting System (SFRS)AIA Approved CE December 2024 Webinar | How HSS Fit in a Seismic Force Resisting System (SFRS)
Date: Wednesday, December 11, 2024
Time: 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. CT
Format: Live Webinar
Level: Intermediate to Advanced, Technical

Yes, you CAN use HSS in seismic regions! This insightful webinar will empower you with the knowledge and tools to effectively incorporate HSS into Seismic Force Resisting Systems (SFRS). Discover the unique aspects of HSS in seismic design and learn how to harness their beneficial properties for your projects. This will be accomplished through an overview of the current state of seismic connections with HSS, considerations of HSS braced frame connections, and discussion of rigid WF beam connections to HSS columns.

Learning Objectives

  • Qualify the potential advantages of HSS
  • Apply the general requirements for use of HSS in seismic systems
  • Understand how HSS are used in seismic braced frames and how this influences their connections
  • Identify the current prequalified moment connections for seismic systems utilizing HSS members

SpeakerBeth Suminski 450w December 2024 Webinar | How HSS Fit in a Seismic Force Resisting System (SFRS)
Beth has worked for 25 years as a structural engineer in the fields of consulting engineering, software, and continuing education. During her first few years, her experiences in construction defect litigation cemented her understanding of how and how NOT to design a structure. She spent the following years as a practicing consulting engineer in San Diego, and later as a director of structural software sales and development with Bentley. In her current position with FORSE, she continues to pursue both the design and educational aspects of structural engineering. One topic Beth highlights is structural steel HSS design, as a technical consultant to the Steel Tube Institute. Beth is a licensed PE and SE in California and a licensed PE in Arkansas.
